about me

Mark Hoffman

I'm a member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) based in London. I have worked with teens over 16 to mature adults.

I specialise in stress, anxiety, depression, bereavement,  self-esteem, the inner critic, the inner child, loss, growing up in a dysfunctional home, codependency, sexuality, relationships, ADHD and obstacles to well-being.

I can work with those in 12-step recovery programs for addictions or those concerned with alcohol, substances, work,  sex, spending, fitness, video games and social media.

I am keen on mindfulness and can integrate grounding techniques into the sessions.

Mark Hoffman Counselling

You will have a confidential space where you can talk about your concerns. Going into counselling might be hard for some, so I will try my best to put you at ease and assist you through the process. I offer integrative counselling, which is person-centred and psychodynamic. These approaches are uniquely tailored to you by looking at the present, which can lead to looking at your history and linking it to current concerns.

Before counselling, I had years of experience and a successful career in hospitality management with the ability to get on with people from all walks of life. Over the years, I have lived in several countries in Europe, Asia and Africa. I have engaged with many different cultures professionally and personally, furthermore being open-minded and culturally sensitive with those I meet.

I trained at London Southbank University with diverse students of different ages, genders, ethnicities, demographics, religions, and sexualities. I qualified with a CPCAB diploma in counselling and psychotherapy. Learning about diversity in-depth has enhanced my ability to sit with different clients and try to understand their worlds from their unique perspectives.

The counselling profession, in some places, can be predominantly white and middle-class. In not reflecting the diverse client base that may want to seek counselling, we are reducing our profession to a stereotype. With my diversity training and my own differences, I hope that clients of all backgrounds and differences will feel safe and understood while with me.

I have worked for NHS Counselling for adults at GP practices in Wandsworth, London, and as a student counsellor for teens and young adults at South Thames College, London. I worked for Cruse bereavement support and completed their bereavement support foundation course.

"People need people – for initial and for continued survival, for socialization, for the pursuit of satisfaction. No one – not the dying, not the outcast, not the mighty – transcends the need for human contact."
